A great spot just about a mile outside the Badlands National Park. They have a Motel and a great campground suitable for everything from pull-throughs for big rigs to tent camping all with reasonable rates. Very friendly and accommodating owners make the stay very pleasant. Be sure to view the Virtual 360 tour we posted on Google Maps.
The grounds, pool and restrooms are immaculately clean and maintained by new management who purchased the location in 2013. The owners/operators are charming, gregarious, and always available if there is any problem.
However Had to drop a star due to the bathrooms. Doors to the toilets and showers had no locks! Also the shower floor held water in the changing portion, it looked like a breeding I ground for athletes foot, had deduct another star for this.
The the before mentioned issues fixed this would be a 5 star campground.
All in all, this campground offers a magnificent experience for an unbeatable price, and I highly recommend it.
And if you're not a fan of camp cooking, the attached restaurant offers daily breakfasts (7am-9am) and dinners. Although we did not have dinner here, we did eat the biscuits and gravy, and rodeo pancakes. Both meals were excellent, and nothing beats a hot meal after long days of hiking and sleeping on the ground.
And it is close! The views from the grounds are magnificent.
If you're camping, I cannot recommend these grounds highly enough.
Arrived during a tornado warning hoping for shelter. They had no rooms but campsites. We were able to set up our trailer during a break in the storms. Friendly staff, great views and great breakfast - sourdough pancakes from a wagon train starter!
Good sized level sites, easy to navigate through. The views of the Badlands during sunset were mesmerizing! Staff was very helpful and even walked the park warning people who had awnings out that there was a high wind front on its way, and ten minutes later the wind hit and thank God they told us. We would have a broken awning had we not put it in!
If you are planning on staying at the paid campground inside Badlands National Park, save yourself a bit of money and come here instead. Having been to both, I can say without a doubt that the campsites at the Badlands Interior Budget Inn are leagues above the park's paid sites, and cost less to boot.
While this place reminds me of my hotel stays as a child (in low priced hotels that happened to be where my grandfather decided to stop for the night) almost to the point that I had to check my age, the staff is all very friendly (in quiet plains kind of way) and it was very close to the badlands for a good price... close enough that we were easily able to attend the evening programs in the park. Our room was clean and, while not fancy, had everything we needed.
This is one of the best camping experiences I've ever had, and I have had quite a few. All the amenities are available at no extra cost, including a swimming pool (a necessity during the high heat of the badlands summer), free showers, and free high speed WiFi. Campsites come in three styles, primitives, no hookup, and full RV hookups, all for much less than most grounds this close to major parks usually offer.
